Abstract
1,139,256. Printing processes. KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. 10 Aug., 1966, No. 35841/66. Heading B6C. [Also in Division C2] A master copy for electrostatic printing is prepared by feeding a photoconductive paper sheet 28 on to a rotatable drum 2 by rollers-35, 36, clamping it on to the drum by cam-operated clips or pawls 4, 5, uniformly charging it by an electrode 11, exposing it to the image of an original 14 formed by a scanning optical system consisting of light sources 15, a lens 16 and mirrors 17, developing the latent image formed with an insulating powder applied by a brush 12, and fixing the developed image on the paper using a heater 24. The thus prepared master is then recycled around the drum at a faster speed to print copies on transfer sheets 18. The master is cleaned by a lamp 7, an electrode 8, a brush 9 and an eraser lamp 10, uniformly charged by-electrode, 11 uniformly exposed by light sources 15 to discharge the uncovered (i.e. non image areas) of the master, and dusted with powder using brush 12 so that powder adheres to the charged (i.e. image) areas of the master. The powder image thus formed is transferred to a transfer paper 18 fed from a stack by fixed troller 40, 19 and 19<SP>1</SP>, and a movable roller 20, under the field produced by a movable electrode 13; the master and-transfer paper are separated by applying a partial vacuum to the latter using a movable perforated roller 21; and the image on the transfer sheet is fixed by a heater 22. The master is recycled, to produce further printed copies, for a predetermined number of cycles, after which the clips 4 and 5 are released so that the master is fed into a receptacle 27 by guides 25, 26. Reference is made to the use of the apparatus to produce a small number of copies by the electrophotographic processes, to the use of masters for printing which have not been prepared in the apparatus, and to cleaning used masters for reuse by removing the fixed image by solvent.
