Abstract

130,533. Imbery, A. Dec. 5, 1918. Hardening; tempering.-Apparatus for hardening and tempering steel &c. strip comprises airtight heating tubes and adjustable cooling dies alternately arranged. The strip 2 passes through a cleaner 1 and enters the tube 3, wherein it forms part of an alternating current circuit and becomes heated to the hardening temperature and then passes through the dies 11, 12. In a second tube 15 the strip is raised to tempering heat and thereafter passes through further cooling dies. A partial vacuum may be formed within the heating tubes, and they may contain non-oxidizing gas. Specification 117,822 is referred to.
