1304505 Casting processes ZHDANOVSKY ZAVOD TYAZHELOGO MASHINOSTROENIA 4 May 1971 12830/71 Heading B3F A metal ingot is prepared by charging a mould with a liquid or solid slag mixture, feeding a first batch of molten metal into the mould, then feeding at least one further batch of molten metal into the mould when the surface of the previously fed batch has solidified, the solid surface being at a temperature higher than the melting point of the slag. The first batch preferably comprises 10 to 20% by weight of the total ingot weight and the weight of each subsequent batch is 80 to 90% of that of the first batch. The batches can be of the same metal or of different metals.
