Abstract

1303382 Semi-conductor device ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 10 May 1971 [3 June 1970] 13965/71 Heading H1K A semi-conductor component comprises a semi-conductor element 3 connected to terminals 1, 2, with a protective polyester-imide vanish 6 on the element 3 and the surfaces of the terminals adjacent the element. The varnish may have a high imide content and be based on terephthalic acid, trimellitic acid, 4,4<SP>1</SP>-diaminodiphenyl methane, glycol and glycerine. The element 3 may be soldered at 4, 5 to copper terminals, and the protected device encapsulated by injection moulding in a synthetic resin compound 7. The varnish 6 may be sprayed on to the element and terminals after being thinned with an organic solvent, which solvent is then allowed to evaporate prior to baking the varnished device first at 110‹ C. and later 250‹ C. to harden the varnish. In an alternative embodiment, one of the terminals may take the form of a metal plate with a raised centre portion contacting the element, The encapsulation 7 may also be of glass, sealed to the terminals.
