Abstract

1302825 Vehicle seat adjustments DAIMLER-BENZ AG 19 April 1971 [14 Feb 1970] 21326/71 Heading A4J A vehicle seat is adjustable vertically and in inclination by independent front and rear rack-and pinion mountings; the seat adjustment mechanisms may be mounted on a base adjustable longitudinally on the vehicle floor, or mounted on the floor and carrying a base on which the seat is slidably adjustable. Similar means may be provided for adjustment of the inclination or fore-and-aft position of the back-rest, or the back-rest may be pivoted and adjusted in known manner. In this arrangement shown the seat is mounted on horizontal transverse shafts 10, 11 rotatable in bearings 12, 13 carried by the slide members 4 of the seatbase. The front shaft 10 has at each end a pair of pins 24 engaging rack teeth 20 formed in an opening 17 in a support member 15 fixed to the base, one end of the shaft 11 being extended through a slot 26 in the adjacent member 4 and provided with a hand knob whereby the pins 24 are moved up and down the rack 20 in the manner of a pinion; a cam 25 on the shaft takes up play in the opening 17. The pins are further held in engagement with the teeth by tension springs 30 connected to the seat base and the rear shaft 11. The bearing 13 of the rear shaft 11 is elongated to allow relative lateral movement of the shaft when the inclination of the seat is altered; this shaft, like the shaft 10, has an operating knob and pairs of pins 28 engaging rack teeth 22 formed on a support member 16.
