1321785 Resiliently mounted seats BREMSHEY A G 17 Feb 1972 [20 March 1971] 7438/72 Headings A4J and A4U In a vehicle seat, seat frame rails 3 are secured to downward steps 2 of a carrier 1, which is supported for vertical movement under the influence of an energy store 21 of adjustable resilience, by laterally arranged pairs of scissors levers 10, 11 which connect the carrier 1 to a subframe 9, and in the lowest position of the seat inter-connected pair's of the levers are in line with each other and the steps 2 lie in the same plane as and, surround the sub-frame 9. The forward ends of the scissors levers rotate on fixed pins 28, 38, and pins 29, 43, connecting the rear ends, run in U-section guide rails and carry load-carrying balls bearing on the webs of the rails. The ends 11' of the levers 11 are offset inwardly. The upper end of the energy store 21 is pivoted at 31 to a central U-section beam 27 parallel to the levers 11 and welded to the pin 29, and the lower end is connected by a pin 20, which is adjustable along a slot 18 in walls 19 in a housing 14, to an eye-piece 22 which is movable by a screw 24 and operating knob 25 to adjust the resilience of the store to suit the weight of the seat occupant by altering the length of the spring. An end of the pin 20 co-operates with a scale 26 on the side of the housing 14. The bearing point of the upper end of the energy store 21, also, may be adjusted in the modification shown in Fig. 7 by a screw rod 47 carried by the pin 29 and operable by a portion 47' to move screws 50, which carry a bearing eye 51, along guide slots 50 in the limbs of the beam 27. One of the rails 3 of the seat frame has rack teeth for horizontal adjustment of the seat on actuation of a release handle 8, and the rake of the seat back 7 is adjustable after release of the handle 8.
