Abstract

[Also in Division B7] In a motor vehicle such as an estate or utility car (see Division B7), the back rest 3 of the front seat is forwardly pivotal from its normal position to position 4, the seat cushion 6 of the rear seat is movable from its normal position so as to rest on the front seat, and the back rest 18 of the rear seat is pivotable so as to rest at its upper edge 20 against the rear seat cushion. A substantially flat surface is thus formed. The front seat is slidably mounted and lockable. Hinge elements 9/10 are mounted on axle pins 7/8 mounted on the vehicle body and are pivoted to the rear seat cushions 6 by pins 13/14, so that the rear seat cushion 6 may be pivoted forwards until the cushion front edge 15 abuts the back rest 3 of the front seat and the elements 9/10 abut the frame of the rear seat cushion 6. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the hinge elements 9/10 are replaced by two metal rails secured to the underside of the rear seat cushion 6 and slidable in brackets fitted to base elements fixed to the vehicle body. U-shaped members attached to the front ends of the rails engage over the axle pins to lock the rear seat cushion against sliding in normal seating. The rear ends of the rails are bent so that they abut the brackets.
