1301877 Heating a shaft furnace BERGWERKSVERBAND GmbH and RHEINSTAHL HœTTENWERKE AG 7 Dec 1970 [10 Dec 1969] 58103/70 Heading C7D [Also in Division C5] A shaft furnace is heated by burning briquettes of fine coal, e.g. having a particle size of below 3mm mixed with good caking coal such as one having a swelling index greater than 4 and briquetted at 300‹-500‹C. The fine coal may be carbonized at 600‹-900‹C before briquetting and the briquettes may contain 10-80% good caking coal.
