Abstract

907,107. Fuel briquettes. STAMICARBON N.V. Dec. 11, 1958 [Dec. 11, 1957], No. 39999/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 50. Fuel briquettes are prepared by pressing at a temperature of from 440-540 C. a mixture comprising 60-80 parts by weight of a low volatile fuel, preferably of less than 10% volatile matter, and 40 to 20 parts by weight of a mixture of caking coals as a binding medium, the coals of the binding medium consisting of 80 to 96% by weight of a coal which is in statistical Group III or IV of the " International Classification of Hard Coals by Type " and belongs to Caking Group 1, and from 20 to 4% by weight of a coal in Statistical Group V. The mixture of fuels to be briquetted is ground to a size not greater than 1 mm and such that 60-80% of the particles are bigger than 0.1 mm. The low volatile fuel may be a mixture of coke breeze and a lean coal and the mixture to be briquetted may be heated to the briquetting temperature by direct contact with hot gases.
