Abstract

1301293 Shunts for electrical instruments WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE ENGLISH ELECTRIC SEMICONDUCTORS LTD 6 Aug 1970 [15 Sept 1969] 45346/69 Heading G1U [Also in Division H1] To compensate for the self-inductance L1 of a nominally resistive shunt RL1, the current to be measured is also passed through a further impedance having a self-inductance L2 equal to L1 but a resistance RL2 which is low relative to RL1. The voltages across L1 and L2 are arranged to be mutually cancelling, by either measuring the difference in the voltages across the shunt proper (arm AD) and the further impedance (arm DB) using a differential voltmeter, or completing a bridge network with non-inductive resistors (arms AF, FB) and measuring the voltage across the bridge diagonal (DF).
