Abstract
PURPOSE: To measure insulating resistance including a ground fault with a hot line circuit by providing the function of inverting the polarity of an applied voltage for measurement and the arithmetic function of averaging the quantity of electricity equivalent to electric power and measured current.
CONSTITUTION: In the figure, Ec is a voltage across bus PN, (r) is the representative value of the insulating resistance of the circuit and (x) is the potential distance of connection point G of resistance (r) from bus N; and Rg is the measured-current limiting resistance, EM is an applied voltage for measurement, and IgA and IgB are measured currents with switches SA and SB ON. Then, when measurement terminals T1 and T2 are connected to the earth and bus N respectively, we obtain IgA=(EM-X.EC)/(r+Rg) and IgB=(EM+X.EC)/(r+Rg). From both the equations, we have (IgA+IgB)/2=EM/(r+Rg), where only (r) is a variable. Therefore, the measurement is taken twice while the polarity of the measurement applied voltage is inversed, so that even if the circuit to be measured has an earth DC voltage (hot line), the insulating resistance can be measured.
