Abstract

Coated and impregnated b o x e s ; joints between box bottoms and bodies; lids and covers.-The body part and end closures of a tubular paper or cardboard receptacle for holding cigarettes, jam, &c. are rendered moisture-proof by first stoving them to drive out moisture, and then treating them with a preparation of celluloid enamel. The bottom closure of the receptacle consists of a cardboard disk D, Fig. 1, which is secured in a recess B in the body part A by means of a ring E. The top of the receptacle is closed by a flanged cover having a central depressed portion G with a small aperture P for exhausting the receptacle of air after the cover has been applied. After sealing the aperture P, an outer cap lid K is applied. In a modification, the top of the receptacle is closed by a paper or parchment cover M, Fig. 2, the edge N of which is gripped tightly against the body A by a cap lid or flanged ring 0, L. According to the Provisional Specification, the top of the receptacle may be closed by a disk of parchment or paper, the edge of which is turned down outside the receptacle and secured 'by a piece of string engaging below an external projection on the body of the receptacle. The external projection is formed by an external ring of paper secured in place by m annular piece of sheet metal engaging inside and outside the rim of the receptacle
