Abstract

1299876 Pipe stoppers CIBA-GEIGY AG 3 Nov 1969 27909/72 Divided out of 1299873 Heading F2P In order to prevent an expansible plug, which seals and internally grips the end of a pipe containing air under pressure, from being blown out of the pipe, when the grip is eased, the pipe is vented, by opening bore 452, before collets 464 are retracted radially. Thus, on turning hand wheel 438 the sealing engagement of 0-ring 450 with bore 452 is initially broken and air escapes through holes 478 in plate 434. The hollow plug 448 is constrained to move into the pipe, by continued rotation of the hand wheel, so that rubber ring 472 can retract collets 464 radially. The collets are guided by screws 466 in radial slots 468 in plate 434 and a pipe sealing ring 476 is provided.
