951,978. Machine tool details. LARRAD (HYDRAJAWS) Ltd. Jan. 29, 1963 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 38846/61. Heading B3B. A mandrel or chuck comprises at least two sets of plungers 3 moved radially by conical members 5 acted upon by a common source of fluid pressure 16. Rotation of a screwed ring 19 moves plungers 17 to transmit pressure to the conical plungers 5 at each end of the mandrel to centralize a workpiece 1. Other plungers 34 as in Specification 898,571 are also moved outwardly to grip the work. In a modification, the plungers are moved inwardly by a conical ring to grip the exterior of a workpiece. By selecting the pressures of return springs 6, 35, or by throttle valves, the plungers 3 may operate before the plungers 34.
