Abstract

1,082,825. Wells &c. RICHFIELD OIL CORPORATION. Sept. 21, 1964 [Sept. 20, 1963], No. 38365/64. Heading E1F. Underwater tubing head apparatus comprises a tubing head 17 having side outlets 116, a tubing hanger 11 having side outlets 114, locking means 32, 35 independent of well pressure for locking the hanger to the head, and sealing means 42, 44, 46 for sealing the annulus between the head and hanger about the outlets. The hanger is lowered into the head on a tool 96 having a hammer 18 which drives parts 22, 24 downwards relative to the hanger to engage latches 32 on the hanger with a groove 35 in the head. Fluid supplied to the centre of the tool passes through parts 36, 37 to move the hanger downwardly relative to a part 29 to set the seals 42, 44, 46. When the fluid pressure is reduced slips 41 prevent relative movement of the part 29 and the hanger. The hanger is removed by a tool (Fig. 2, not shown), which screws into threads 56 on the part 22. A hanger for thin tubing may be landed on the shoulder 104 in the hanger.
