Abstract
1299639 Condensation of vapours BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 27 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 41229/70 Heading BIB Vapour such as steam, which contains a small proportion of air or other non-condensable gas, is condensed in a primary condenser 1 comprising cooling pipes 13 and in a secondary condenser 2 comprising cooling pipes 14; the mixture of residual vapour and non-condensable gas flows through an aperture in flow-restricting partition 7 to a gascooler 3 comprising cooling pipes 15 (Fig. 4) and the cooled gas is extracted through port 6 into duct 4, e.g. by means of a water-jet pump. Part 6 is the position in cooler 3 of greatest partial pressure of gas. Pressure compensating spaces 11 and 12, free from cooling tubes, intervene between the three cooling stages. The drop in pressure of the mixture, as between the pressure prevailing before and after condensation, occurs largely after the mixture has traversed the secondary condenser and before the gas-cooling begins.
