Abstract
1299104 Pipe coupling USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 20 March 1970 [20 March 1969] 13735/70 Heading F2G An inlet construction of a vessel 12 for receiving molten metal has a tube 21 urged upwards into sealing engagement with a bottom pour opening of a teeming vessel 10 by spring means located between the top of the vessel 12 and means fitted to the upwardly extending portion of the tube 21. As shown the spring means may comprise a compression spring 25 located between annular collars 23, 24 and/or auxiliary springs 42 located by studs 43, eye bolts 44 and nuts 45 around the periphery of plate 33. A plurality of hold-downs 35 being spring mounted on the plate 33 and pivotally connected to coverplate 17 of the vessel 12 and/or the weight of the tube 21 may be relied on to keep the plate 33 in position. Bellows 30 may be provided when a vacuum or special atmosphere exists within the vessel 12. A cylindrical shield 31 having an inlet 32 for admitting cooling air is provided and vessels 10, 12 and tube 21 are lined with refractory material. A refractory lined sliding gate closure 15 is provided at the base of the teeming vessel 10 to control the flow of molten metal therefrom. Alternatively the mechanical spring means may be replaced by a pneumatic or hydraulic spring device.
