Abstract

1297399 Waveguide couplings KABELUND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG and SPINNER GmbH 13 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 39066/70 Heading H1W A coupling for connecting hollow waveguides which may have different cross-sections, e.g. elliptical and rectangular, comprises two components 1, 3 which when fastened together form a cavity 6 containing the flanged ends of the guides to be connected and in which at least one of the components is a flanged bush 1 surrounding the guide 2 and provided with circumferentially disposed passages 8 connecting the cavity 6 with the circumferential gap between the guide 2 and bush 1. The gap and cavity are filled with an elastic composition which is introduced through an aperture closed by a screw 9 and flows through the passages 8. The plastic composition forms an air-tight seal and prevents introduction of water vapour. A sealing element 11 seals the flange 5 against the second connecting component 3 which is provided with a passage 16 through which the waveguide may be pressurized. The flanged bush 1 is provided with circumferential grooves inside the portion surrounding the guide 2 and one groove interconnecting the exits of the passages 8 on the end face of the bush 1 so as to facilitate an even distribution of the plastic composition.
