Abstract

925,279. Waveguide couplings. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. July 7, 1961, No. 24719/61. Class 40 (8). [Also in Group XXVIII] A coupling device for a pair of waveguides 1, 2 of round external configuration includes a groove 3 in the surface of one of the guides, a ring 5 fitting into the groove and projecting above it, and an axially movable collar 7 arranged to engage the ring and to engage a securing member on the other waveguide. As shown, the second securing member 8 forms part of a similar arrangement on the guide 2. The two securing members 7, 8 may be screwed together or, if they are provided with flanges, bolted together. When bolts are used, the flanges must be spaced by a certain amount to ensure that the abutting ends of the waveguides engage with sufficient pressure. Gaskets or shims may be inserted between the waveguides. The rings and grooves may be of any convenient section and the rings may consist of one or more segments. The securing member 8 may be made integral with the waveguide 2.
