Abstract

1296499 Polishing AVEDIS ZILDJIAN CO 6 Jan 1971 [16 Feb 1970] 614/71 Heading B3D Percussive instruments having grooved surfaces, such as cymbals, are polished by contact with a buffing surface moving at high speed, the pressure of the surface being substantially uniform over the surface of the instrument and being controlled to keep the temperature below a predetermined maximum. Fabric buffing discs 44 shaped to the contour of the instrument are mounted for rotation above a rotatable table 14 supporting the instrument. The table may be raised vertically to press the instrument against the discs so that the peripheries of the latter fan out to provide a continuous buffing surface. The load on the motor 40 driving the buffing discs is read on a gauge 43 to provide an indication of buffing pressure which may thus be controlled either manually or automatically by adjusting the height of the table 14. A machine having appropriately contoured discs and table may polish concave surfaces (not shown).
