Abstract

1295851 Fuel cells ENERGY CONVERSION Ltd 19 Feb 1970 [10 March 1969] 12552/69 Heading H1B Cell reversal is prevented in a fuel cell comprising a plurality of cells with a common electrolyte, by applying an electrical potential across each cell during start-up and shut-down. The potential may be applied from separate secondary windings Ts1 to Tsn of a transformer T via rectifier means such as diodes d1 to dn for each cell C1 to Cn. The primary winding Tp is fed from an A.C. supply mains or a squarewave inverter supplied from a start-up battery to provide an output of 500 mV to each cell.
