Abstract

884,793. Charging batteries. STEAD, R. C. T. May 15, 1959 [July 16, 1958], No. 22747/58. Class 38 (4). [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL (b)] Battery charging means comprise a plurality of photo-voltaic cells and light-sensitive means regulating the charging current. The plurality of cells 10, Fig. 1, charge batteries 16 through a transistor 10a the base of which is connected to a further photovoltaic cell. The transistor may be replaced by a reverse-connected photovoltaic cell, Fig. 5 (not shown). In another embodiment, the cells 10 are automatically switched between series and series-parallel arrangement at low and high light levels respectively by photo-resistors 32.
