879,978. Battery charging systems. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. June 19, 1959 [June 23, 1958 (2)], Nos. 20070/58 and 20071/58. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] In a circuit for charging a battery B, Fig. 1, by the solar cells C a transistor T conducts only when the cell voltage exceeds the reverse battery voltage. The cells C may be shunted by diodes D, Fig. 2, to avoid a high resistance if one is obscured. Where a series-parallel arrangement of cells is required, the individual cells may be replaced by sets of cells in parallel, Fig. 3 (not shown). This arrangement minimizes the effect of obscuration of a single cell.
