[Also in Group XL (b)] In a circuit for charging a battery B, Fig. 1, by the solar cells C a transistor T conducts only when the cell voltage exceeds the reverse battery voltage. The cells C may be shunted by diodes D, Fig. 2, to avoid a high resistance if one is obscured. Where a series-parallel arrangement of cells is required, the individual cells may be replaced by sets of cells in parallel, Fig. 3 (not shown). This arrangement minimizes the effect of obscuration of a single cell.
