Abstract

129,497. Thornycroft & Co., J. I., and Thornycroft, T. Aug, 17, 1918. Spray carburettors.-The primary air supply is controlled by a sliding choke-tube s operated by hand or by governor. Two nozzle-tubes c, d are immersed in the float-chamber b, one delivers direct through a nozzle e into the mixing-chamber f, the other through horizontal nozzles i into a small chamber k where it is mixed with air entering through a small adjustable valve p. The chamber k has exits near its lower part at n, so that when the choke-tube is in its lowest position (say at starting) there is practically no suction past n, and only the nozzle e is in action giving a rich mixture. As the choke-tube is raised, the nozzles i come into use. In a modification, the nozzle c is dispensed with, its function being served by extra holes in the chamber k, these holes being just under the choke-tube when in its lowest position, so that then there is a strong suction past these extra holes. The float 1 acts on a lever 2 pivoted at 3 and carrying a valve 4 and a flooding-knob 9.
