Abstract

1293690 Selective printing TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO Ltd 22 Dec 1970 [22 Dec 1969] 60875/70 Heading B6F [Also in Division B8] In article sorting apparatus, markings, for determining the route of a baggage on a conveyer system 2 and lanes 7a-7j, are stamped on labels which are applied to the baggage 14 by an applicator 3. At station A an operator actuates key 69 thereby storing the baggage data in memory 4a. The baggage moves on a conveyer 1a-1d to a position in front of a vacuum cup 13 where it stops. The operator then actuates feed rollers 18a-18d, advancing a label strip 16, and depresses button 70 which energises magnets 33. These drive print members 24 which imprint code marks on the strip 16. Further marks are printed at a type wheel 26, the printed strip being checked by a read-out portion 21 which compares the markings to the previously stored input. Cutters 19 then sever the label, this action stopping the feed rollers 18a-18d. The label is then guided to the vacuum cup 13 which holds the label whilst a roller 47 applies adhesive thereto. The cup 13 then advances the label and attaches it to the baggage. The baggage is placed on the conveyer 2, travelling past a further read out device 9 which activates a control 8 transmitting classifying signals 10 which selectively operates gates X. In a modification, the label strip is replaced by label blanks stacked in a magazine box.
