Abstract

997,891. Printing-apparatus. WILLIAM GRANT & SONS Ltd. June 16, 1964 [June 17, 1963], No. 23979/63. Heading B6C. [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for marking codes and other data on cartons, cases &c. comprises a continuously moving endless conveyer belt 1 for feeding the cartons successively to a plurality of codemarking devices 2, 3, 4 including number and/or letter-printing devices located at one side of the line of travel of the cartons, a stop member, Fig. 2 (not shown), for arresting forward movement of the carton, co-operating wedge parts adapted to be operated by a pneumatic device 15 to cause rollers 16a to raise a carton at the station adjacent the printing head 2, and a shoe member 18 supported by arms 18a and arranged to engage a side face of the carton opposite that to be marked so as to provide an impression surface during printing. The automatically inked typing head or marking die may be moved pneumatically, mechanically or electrically to effect printing and the apparatus may be controlled by microswitches, Fig. 4 (not shown), which are engaged by the cartons. Rollers 5, 6, which may be assisted by a ram, rotate the cartons through 90 degrees prior to printing. A counting device controlled by a photoelectric cell may cut-out the conveyer drive when a batch of the required number has been printed.
