[Class 100 (iv)] [Also in Group XIX] Imperforate records of the singledimension class (that is, wherein a single item is represented by identical code-characters arranged in a single row and differentiated by position only) for controlling lightsensitive apparatus are produced in a typewriter or like machine having levers, slides, or wheels bearing code-printing types. Alternatively, the code - characters may be arranged on settable members, such as wheels, and be photographed directly on to the record. Fig. 1 shows a set of type-levers 11 each provided with a type 12 for printing a numeral code-character, and a type for printing the corresponding numeral. The types 12 are identical but are disposed in different lateral positions on the type-heads. The types 12 may' print black characters, or blank characters on a black background. The typelevers may be replaced by type-slides, or by settable wheels bearing a set of code-character types, with or without corresponding numeral types. As applied to counting-apparatus, a counter numeral wheel is shown developed in Fig. 7 to reveal the arrangement of the code characters, the reading line of the counter being photographed directly on to the record. The counting-wheels may be provided with masks having slots representing the code-characters, the wheels and masks being preferably coloured white and black.
