Abstract
793,102. Typewriters. BRITISH TABULATING MACHINE CO., Ltd. Nov. 10, 1954, No. 32533/54. Class 100(4) [Also in Group XIX] A type-bar, Fig. 4, for recording data to be sensed photo-electrically has two printing faces, one for a visually readable character, and a second face bearing at least two bar-like portions. One of the bars occupies the same relative position for all characters and the other bar or bars occupy positions representing by their distance from the first bar a code corresponding with the particular character. A type wheel Fig. 1 has ten faces 2 each of which prints one of the numerals zero to nine. Each face may be regarded as comprising two areas that between lines X and Y, Fig. 2, and that between the lines Y and Z. The first area prints the visually readable character, the second has two or more bar like portions 4 and 5 to print a coded representation of the character. The bars may be located at any of seven positions which are indicated by dotted lines referenced S A B C D E and F. Each face 2 has a bar at position S. Specifications 785,605 and 793,103 [Group XIX] are referred to.
