Abstract

1292604 Furniture joints and frames K E STANLEY 7 Jan 1970 [7 Jan 1969] 998/69 Heading A4H [Also in Divisions B3 and E1] A rigid tubular T-joint for use in tubular furniture, car seats, roof racks, toys and building frameworks has one of the tube ends 5B, Fig.3, bent at right angles and crushed to a semi-circular cross-section to fit against the other tube 7 to which it is bolted. The tube 5, Fig.8, can have both ends crushed to fit bars arranged at right angles to one another. Some frameworks can be formed as shown in Fig.9. Adjustable connecting members e.g. straps 43, Fig.13 (not shown) are used or lugs 40 in the crushed tube engage perforations 42 in the other tube, Fig.12 (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig.16, the crushed portion is formed with turned-back edges 44 to enable a clamp 45 to engage them the clamp being locked to the other tube by a grub screw 48. Figs.19 to 23 (not shown) show other methods of connecting the pipes. Two metal rods 50 and 51, Fig.18, are connected by a crushed and bent short metal tube 52 welded to the rods. The centre portion of a tube is crushed and bent to be joined to another tube, Fig.29 (not shown) or a flat plate 81, Fig.32, to which it is bolted. A building framework may be formed of lattice girders constructed from tubes joined as described above, Fig.31 (not shown).
