Abstract

1292334 Stuffer-box crimping TMM (RESEARCH) Ltd 6 March 1970 [13 March 1969] 13399/69 Heading D1F The quantity of yarn or tow Y within a stuffer-box crimper is maintained within limits by pneumatic control means adjusting the speed of feeding or withdrawing rollers, 1, 2 or 28, 29 respectively in response to movement of a wad-forming movable pressure member 3 within the stuffer-box which is pivoted towards a wall thereof as the head of the wad of material therein advances. The member 3 is pivoted against the force of a weight W to actuate a valve V supplying low pressure air to one of a pair of diaphragm valves 16, 21 and exhausting the other. The diaphragm valves supply high pressure air to one end of a double-acting cylinder 13, and exhaust the other, moving a piston-rod 30 to adjust the ratio of a gear-box 26 and control the speed of withdrawal rollers 28, 29.
