Abstract
1,017,467. Rolling. MASCHINENFABRIK HASENCLEVER A.G. Oct. 2, 1963, No. 38764/63. Heading B3M. A work feeding device suitable for use with forging rolls has a work gripper which is connected to servo motor means for automatically feeding the work at substantially the same rate as the rolls move the work. A workpiece 3, held by a gripper 4 for rolling between rolls 1 and 2 in response to movement in direction C caused by initial contact with working rolls 1 and 2, is fed in the same direction by an hydraulically controlled movable slide. Movement of a slide 10 which carries the gripper 5 is controlled by the position of a spool 6 formed integrally with the gripper, the spool determining the quantity of fluid supplied to either side of a fixed piston 13 about which the slide moves. Hydraulic fluid is supplied from a conduit 30, through a conduit 17 to a fixed piston rod 14, and through conduits 19 and 20, to act on both sides of a piston 13 in a bore 11. As the workpiece is initially moved to the right, however, conduit 19 is closed by a shoulder 22 on a spool 6, so that fluid is supplied only to the right of piston 13, and so that conduit 20 is vented to an exhaust port 21. The slide 10 thus moves to the right. Should the slide move too fast relative to the slider 6, and hence the workpiece, the conduit will again be opened and the driving force supplied to the slider will cease. Thus the slider follows the feeding of the workpiece and avoids compressional or tensional stresses in the rolled workpiece. Air from a reservoir 45 is directed by a lever 62 to the right of the slider 6 when rolling is completed to cause movement of the slide 10 back to its original position. The frame 12, including the slide 10 can be moved laterally by an hydraulic piston-cylinder assembly to align the workpiece with further roll pairs mounted coaxially with rolls 1 and 2.
