Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the facility of maintenance of a roll shifter, by attaching a driver for shifting an intermediate roll to either the intermediate roll or a shifting frame sliding jointly with an intermediate roll chock. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate roll chock 8 is rotatably coupled with a journal of an intermediate roll 6; the roll chock 8 supports and guides the vertical and axial movement of the roll 6. An arm is provided in the roll chock 8; a connector 30 is hung from this arm, and a shifting frame 18 for shifting axially the roll 6 is fixed to the connector 30 by using a clamp 21; hereby, the roll 6 is placed under a freely and vertically shiftable state. On the other hand, a cylinder 19, as a power source for axially shifting the roll 6, is attached to the shifting frame 18. By combining the present constitution with a hydraulic control, the intermediate roll 6 is surely, quickly and adjustably shifted in the axial direction; besides, since the cylinder 19 is not internally held or built in, the cylinder 19 can be easily detached at a maintenance work.
