Abstract

1291987 Bonded fibre article ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 28 Nov 1969 [26 Dec 1968 22 July 1969] 58246/69 Heading D1R [Also in Division H1] A battery separator comprises synthetic fibres of diameter less than 10Á compacted into a self-bonded rigid structure having a porosity greater than 40% and a maximum pore size, of less than 40Á. The fibres can be polypropylene, polystyrene, nylon 6, 66 or 610, polyethylene terephthalate, polymethylmethacrylate, polyethylene or ethylene-propylene copolymer. The fibres can be air-laid onto a drum to form a mat which is then compacted by hot calendering or pressing to form the battery separator. The battery separator may be formed with ribs and electrodes.
