1291842 Supporting overhead conductors BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CONSTRUCTION CO Ltd 1 May 1970 [2 May 1969] 22500/69 Heading H2C The sole supports for a railway overhead electric power cable are transverse cantilever arms each having as a major structural member a resin bonded glass fibre rod 13. The rod, which provides most of the required flexibility and insulation, is held in a galvanized steel tube, which may be telescopic 10, 12, the tube being held in a cradle on an end fitting 2 which can pivot about a vertical axis. The surface of the rod is provided with a coating or an adherent sleeve of butyl rubber to resist tracking. To provide a non-linear spring effect two or more rods of different lengths or characteristics may be used.
