Abstract
1291416 Gas-discharge display panels ENGELHARD MINERALS & CHEMICALS CORP 17 March 1971 7133/71 Heading H1D A gas-discharge display device comprises a woven mesh of non-contacting wires 11, 12 sandwiched between dielectric panels 15, 16 hermetically sealed together to form a pocket 14 filled with an inert ionizable gas. In the arrangement shown the wires 12, which may be of Cu, Ag, or an alloy which makes a good glass-to-metal seal, have a coating 13 of gaspermeable insulating material, e.g. fibreglass or asbestos. The wires 11 may be similarly coated, but are preferably bare. Alternatively, both sets of wires may be bare and crimped at the cross-over points to prevent contact. The panels 15, 16 may be of glass, quartz, ceramic or certain plastics. The gas filling may be Ne, A, Xe, Kr or mixtures thereof, e.g. Ne at a pressure of 0À33 atmos.
