Abstract
1444023 Metal-vapour lamps THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Jan 1974 [23 Jan 1973] 3469/73 Heading H1D The filling of a high-pressure metal halide electrical discharge lamp comprises mercury vapour, a rare gas, aluminium halide and at least one halide of the alkali metals lithium and sodium. Two lamps are described (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) one of which has a double envelope. In these lamps the temperature of the discharge tube ends may be increased by zirconium coatings. Four examples of specific fillings are provided in which the preferred halide is the chloride or iodide and the preferred alkali metal is sodium. The rare gas may be argon at a pressure of 20 to 50 torr.
