Abstract

1291045 Vacuum switch contacts WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 21 Jan 1970 [10 Feb 1969] 2849/70 Heading H1N The contact of a vacuum switch has radial extensions 19 set back from the contact surface 8a on to which the arc transfers. The extensions are narrowest adjacent the central contact 8a so that they transfer a minimum of heat back to the contact. The extensions are separated by equal spaces. The contact 8a may be of an alloy of copper with 0À3% bismuth and the extensions of pure copper (with a lower arcing voltage).
