Abstract

1289923 Spring clamped wall partitions HOUGH MFG CORP 1 Jan 1971 [5 Jan 1970] 96/71 Heading E1W Partition panels have retractable and extensible portions 117 along the top or bottom edge. engaging the floor or ceiling. The portions are channel shaped and engage inside an outwardly directed channel like panel frame 32. An arrangement (130, 132) of rods working like lazy tongs are sprung to urge the portion 117 away from the frame 32 by springs (196, 204) in tension. The resultant spring effect is such that, in the operative range, pressure between the portion 117 and the room surface increases as the portion 117 is extended from the frame 32. The portion may be retracted during installation or removal by pulling the ring 230. Panels have a honeycomb filling clad with plasterboard or hardboard Figs. 2A-2B (not shown). Wooden framing (34, 38) secured around the filling has secured to it extruded aluminium edge frames (48, 32, 50, 54). The outside edge of the extensible portion carries elastomeric sealing strips (122) Fig. 4 (not shown). When the extensible portion engages the ceiling, a floor engaging frame may include a screw and nut jacking arrangement (396, 400) Fig. 7 (not shown). The panels may abut a locating device on suspended ceiling T-bars (not shown).
