1289857 Pressure-loaded gear pump M TUROLLA 13 Nov 1969 [15 Nov 1968] 55743/69 Heading F1F A reversible pressure-loaded gear pump also operable as a motor comprises a pair of gears 6, 7 mounted on journals 106, 107 which are rotatably mounted in bores 16, 17 in a pair of bearing plates 8, a pressure gap 11 being provided between the outer face of each bearing plate 8 and a corresponding end-plate 4 or 5, each gap 11 being divided into symmetrical zones A1, A2, A3, A4, A14, Fig. 3, by sealing members D1-D4, located in grooves in the end-plates 4, 5. The zones A2, A3, defined by the sealing members D2, D3 are connected via passages 12, 13 to the pump inlet 2 and outlet 3 respectively to balance the forces acting on the bearing plates 8 in these regions, whilst leakage of fluid via the bores 16, 17 and the periphery of the bearing plates 8 tends to pressurize zone A1 at approximately the action pressure and zones A4, A14 at substantially the delivery pressure.
