Valve-chests, mounting and cooling.-In order that any leakage between the exhaust valve seating and the cylinder may be immediately detected, passages b<1> open to the atmosphere are provided between the exhaust flange and the cylinder casting. The joint e between the valveseating and the cylinder is made with non-elastic packing such as a copper ring, and-elastic packing is provided at G and H to prevent leakage of gas from the exhaust pipe. Fig. 1 shows the application of the invention to the water-cooled valve seating described in Specification 108,594.
