Abstract

1288039 Refrigerating BRITISH OXYGEN CO Ltd 9 Dec 1969 [10 Dec 1968] 58584/68 Heading F4H A gas cooling system comprises an expansion turbine 2 for expanding and cooling the gas fed thereto under pressure against a load exerted by a brake 4, the load being adjustable in dependence upon the input temperature of the gas entering the turbine through a conduit 1. The brake is mounted on a shaft common to the turbine and comprises a paddle revolving in a gas atmosphere, the pressure of which is controlled via a valve 7. dependent on the gas inlet temperature as sensed by a unit 6 to maintain constant rotational speed of the turbine. Heat produced by the brake is removed by circulation of the braking gas through a heat exchanger 5.
