Abstract

1288013 Electrostatic precipitators; washer assemblies WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 29 April 1971 [27 May 1970] 12066/71 Heading B2J An electrostatic precipitator includes a washer assembly 25, 26 for directing a washing fluid at the plate electrodes of an upright panel of electrodes 11-18, support means such as track 27 and wheels 28, 29 for guiding the washer assembly along a path parallel to the face of the panel, drive means mounted on said assembly including a gear as at 42 and an elongated member such as a chain 40 extending along the path of said assembly and having said gear engaged therewith to provide traversing movement of said washer assembly. The drive means further includes a unidirectional electric motor 43 connected to the gear 42, the chain 40 being supported at its ends by pivoted link members 50, 51, the arrangement being such that when the gear arrives at an end of the chain it is guided by a groove 52 or 54 in the link 50 or 51 so as to engage the other side (top or bottom) of the chain and cause return movement of the washer assembly. A U-shaped member 60 with arms 61, 62 prevents disengagement of the gear from the chain. The chain may be replaced by a flexible or even substantially rigid rack member. The support means may include a further wheel at the lower end of the assembly 25.
