Abstract
912,362. Apparatus for propelling vehicles. PLOWRIGHT BROS. Ltd. April 8, 1959 [April 8, 1958], No. 10973/58. Class 104 (2). An apparatus for pulling or pushing wagons or tubs along a rail track consists of one member movable along a predetermined straight line path in both directions, a wagon engaging member movable along a path for engaging wagons on the rail track and flexible links interconnecting the wagon-engaging member with the movable member so that movement of the movable member results in movement of the wagon-engaging member in the opposite direction. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 a trolley 2, mounted on a track 1 and provided with a pusher arm 3, is connected by a wire rope 4 passing round pulleys 5 to each end of a piston 7 reciprocally movable by fluid pressure in a cylinder 6 to impart a reciprocal movement to the trolley 2. The apparatus may be arranged, Fig. 4 (not shown), to move members vertically or, alternatively, the trolley 2 may be arranged below the cylinder 6. The wire rope 4 may be covered with a plastic such as polyvinyl chloride.
