Abstract

1287991 Paper; papermaking GLANZSTOFF AG 28 Jan 1970 [26 March 1969] 4040/70 Headings D2A and D2B Non-woven sheeting is made by compacting fibre fleece free from any resinous impregnating agent to a density of at least 0.15 grams/ cm<SP>3</SP> and a thickness of at least 0.4 mm, the resulting flat sheet being then split once or a plurality of times in a direction parallel to the plane of the fleece. The fleece may be made on a paper machine from a fibre dispersion mixture containing a proportion of shrinkable fibres and binding fibres e.g. polyamide and viscose rayon fibres together with a surface active agent and is compacted by heat treatment in the presence of water and is then dried for example in a float drier in which it is heated to a temperature of 95 to 98‹C by infra-red radiation. The split sheets may be raised, or impregnated or coated with a synthetic resin dispersion, for example to make them water repellent.
