Abstract

1287091 Random noise generators PLESSEY CO Ltd 27 June 1960 [20 July 1959] 24918/59 Heading H3B [Also in Division H1] A wide-band noise generator comprises a simple thermionic diode which is combined with means for producing an intense magnetic field perpendicular to the electric field existing between the anode and cathode of the diode, the noise output being developed across an impedance in the anode circuit of the diode. The impedance is preferably an ohmic resistance but may include an inductance to compensate for the anode capacitance of the valve. In an example the diode is operated at a current of 27 milliamperes in a magnetic field of 1350 gauss. (For Figures see next column.)
