Abstract

1513154 Superconductive arrangements SCIENCE RESEARCH COUNCIL 22 Aug 1975 [22 Aug 1974] 36911/74 Heading H3X [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] An electromagnet has a superconductive winding 2 shunted by a resistor 4 which is heated to cause the winding to adopt its non-superconducting state when the voltage across the resistor reaches a predetermined value. This arrangement is connected in circuit with another superconducting device, e.g. a flux pump 6 or a persistent current switch (5), Fig. 2 (not shown), and is used to protect this other device when the voltage reaches the predetermined value (Division H2).
