Abstract
1285074 Treating effluent from toilets KOEHLER-DAYTON Inc 1 Oct 1969 [3 Oct 1968] 48326/69 Heading C1C [Also in Division E1] Effluent containing solid matter from toilets on ships &c. is fed via conduit 18 and a timedelay pressure operated switch device 45 into a tube 55 containing a comminutor blade 63 driven by a shaft 61 and an electric motor 58. The maximum size of particles permitted to pass into chamber 25 is determined by an annular gap 65 defined by the tube 55 and a plate 64. Effluent containing comminuted solids discharges via orifice 32 into a chamber 28 which contains tablets of a substance which releases chlorine and is provided with a device 70 which senses the level of tablets in the chamber and controls the operation of the comminutor. Treated effluent flows via orifice 36 into a chamber 33 containing baffles 35. The effluent is finally discharged via outlet 40. The device 45 includes a chamber 46 and a pressure operated switch 50 separated by a flexible diaphragm 48. The pressure of effluent flowing in conduit 18 actuates the switch 50 to initiate operation of the comminutor. The switch 50 is of the time-delay type to ensure operation of the comminutor to treat the final portion of the effluent flowing from conduit 18. The device 70 contains a switch 97 with an actuator lever 100 connected by a flexible chain (101), Fig. 3 (not shown), to a flexible diaphragm (96) from which a weight (107) is suspended by a flexible cord (105). When the level of tablets in chamber 28 drops, the weight (107) actuates the switch 97 to stop or prevent the operation of the comminutor and to energize a buzzer (116), Fig. 8 (not shown) and/or a lamp (117). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,209,173 and 1,209,174.
