Abstract
1,209,766. Waste disposal apparatus; jet pulverizers. VERNON & CO. (PULP PRODUCTS) Ltd. 18 Nov., 1968 [16 Aug., 1967], No. 37576/67. Heading B2A. A comminuting apparatus, particularly for disposable bed pans, comprises a vat 5, Fig. 2, and a rotor 22 by which jets of water are delivered through upwardly and outwardly directed holes 24, 25, so as to break down the material in the vats. The rotor which may be eccentrically mounted is in the form of a flat hollow disc and is driven by a motor 11 at e.g. 3000 r.p.m. so that water is drawn up a tube 18 from a float-valve-controlled tank 19. The rotor may have vanes 27, 27a, Fig. 3, on its lower and upper surfaces. The lid 26, has a ring seal 28 in a groove 29. In operation a pump 17 supplies water via a tube 30 to the base of the groove 29 to force the seal 28 tightly against the vat and secure the lid. The lid is pedal operated, 34, 35, and has a microswitch in the motor starter circuit to prevent operation until the lid is closed. The pump 17 may serve as a booster for the rotor 22. The vat discharges continuously into a drain via a trap 38. The lid seal may be omitted if the apparatus is used for comminuting e.g. sheet or lapped wood pulp, which are not contaminated.
