Abstract
1284994 Soldering GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 1886/70 Heading B3R [Also in Division C7] A soldering iron bit which is composed of 5- 60% by weight Fe and either Cu only or in addition one or more of the elements P, Cr, Ni, Si in a total percentage not greater than 2%, consists of at least two mutually insoluble phases at least one of which is copper-rich and at least one of which is iron-rich, which phases are present in the form of elongated particles or regions and are interlocked with one another to give a fibrous structure to the alloy body. The fibrous structure is obtained by subjecting a Cu-Fe melt or a sintered Cu-Fe powder mixture of the desired proportions to: unidirectional rolling, swaging or drawing to reduce the crosssectional area by 50% or by a hot or cold extruding process.
