Abstract

1283888 Musical instruments F PACHE 19 April 1971 [24 Feb 1970] 21395/71 Heading G5J In order to vary the quality of the notes produced by a clavichord type instrument (Fig. 1) having electromagnetic pick-up 12 over iron or nickel-iron strings 9 there is provided a rack and pinion arrangement 30, 33 driven by wheel 34 to raise or lower the balance rail 17, a pedal assembly 36 to raise the support strip 24 so that the tangents lightly touch the strings, a damping pad 35 being arranged to descend and damp the vibrations of the strings at the moment of contact, and a transposing beam 38 (Fig. 2) extending from a rotatable pillar 37 and arranged to be lowered on to the strings by the operator. More than one pick-up 41, 40 (Fig. 2) may be provided and the beam may be edged with hard rubber. The beam may be used to sweep the strings producing a glissando effect. The pickup (Fig. 1) is connected to a loud-speaker 16 via an amplifier 14.
